Kemnath Foundation is a global community of people who care about the vulnerable and take action to help them reach their fullest potential at every stage of life. We are people who know that we can’t afford to lose anyone to hunger, illiteracy, disease, or neglect. And when communities grow up healthy, educated, and safe, everyone benefits.
Pillars To Our Support
The Kemnath Foundation was established in 2015 with a mission to transform communities and uplift disadvantaged families. The inspiration for the foundation came from a heart-wrenching encounter with a boy named Andrew, who was seen selling bananas along the road. Andrew’s feet and hands were severely infested with jiggers, making it nearly impossible for him to walk, yet he persevered to provide for his siblings. Touched by his story, our founders and sponsors, Miriam Buchner Matemba(left), along with Theophil Steuer (patron) and Angelika Steuer (matron) from KKNH, visited Andrew's home and discovered that his entire family, along with many in the community, were affected by jiggers. Moved by this situation, they launched the Anti-Jigger Campaign to address the widespread issue, marking the beginning of the foundation’s journey. As they engaged with the community, they realized that education and vocational training were critical to breaking the cycle of poverty. Thus, the scholarship and vocational training programs were born, providing children like Andrew the opportunity to attend school and receive proper support. In that same year, the foundation introduced a Tailoring and Garment Making Training Center, enrolling over 50 boys and girls to teach essential skills. Additionally, a Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy course was launched, admitting another 50 students. Both programs were fully sponsored by our German partners, allowing students to receive free education. Inspired by parents’ requests for basic training to help support their families, these vocational colleges became an essential part of the foundation’s work. Today, Kemnath Foundation continues to grow and is recognized as a transformative force in the community, providing support to numerous children through scholarships, school supplies, uniforms, and more. The foundation also keeps youth engaged through sporting activities like football teams, reducing street involvement. Registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under Article 10 of the Societies Act in Kenya, the foundation remains committed to creating a lasting impact in the lives of many, thanks to the ongoing support of our dedicated sponsors

We exist for the vulnerable, and their voices and experiences guide everything we do. Each year, we reach millions of individuals and families facing poverty through programs that empower them to create the conditions needed to thrive.

As a community development organization, we collaborate closely with local partner organizations to reduce the impact of poverty on communities. Local people understand their neighborhoods better than anyone, families know their own dynamics, and individuals are the best experts on their own experiences. By working together, we ensure that our efforts are tailored to meet the unique needs of those we serve.
Spiritual-first
Spiritual growth is fundamental to our mission of combating poverty and empowering communities. By working closely with spiritual elders, we integrate spiritual support with educational initiatives to uplift children and families. Understanding that local residents know their neighborhoods, families, and children best, we ensure our approach is rooted in these insights. Together, we create holistic solutions that address both spiritual and practical needs.
